The concept of security blankets and comforters have been around for many years, however the added attraction of soft to the touch coloured satin keep little fingers very busy indeed !
Security blanket is often defined as ‘’a familiar object whose presence provides security and comfort to its owner’.
A newborn baby needs to feel secure in order to develop good sleeping habits, of which the majority is provided by the parents such as keeping the baby well fed, warm, clean, dry and comfortable. However, a form of security blanket or comforter offers the extra security to the child at times when the parents cannot be there. It can be a reminder of mummy and daddy, and be seen as an extension of them and the security they provide.
